What Invisalign is, in plain terms

Instead of brackets glued to your teeth, you wear a sequence of clear plastic aligners. Each one is slightly different from the last, and worn in order they move your teeth gradually into a planned position.

The whole sequence is planned digitally before the first aligner is made, so at your consultation you can see what the intended result looks like and decide whether it is worth doing at all.

Why people choose aligners over braces

Discreet, though not invisible

Clear aligners are far less obvious than fixed braces, and most people will not notice them in conversation. Up close, they can still be seen. Anyone claiming otherwise is overselling.

You take them out to eat

No food restrictions, and you clean your teeth normally rather than working around brackets and wires. For a lot of adults this is the deciding factor.

Fewer appointments

Check-ins are periodic rather than monthly adjustments, which suits people who cannot easily take time off work.

When aligners are not the answer

Clear aligners handle a lot of cases well, particularly crowding, spacing and mild bite issues. They are not the right tool for everything. Some bite corrections and more complex movements are better handled with fixed braces, or by an orthodontist rather than a general dentist.

If your case falls into that group, I'll tell you at the consultation and refer you on, rather than starting something that will not give you the result you wanted.

Individual results and timeframes vary from person to person, depending on the condition of your teeth, gums, and other relevant medical conditions. I'll always give you a personalised treatment plan at your consultation appointment.
